Happy New Year! Before we celebrate 2015, let’s reflect on what God did in 2014, like our Christmas Joy Drive. We were able to dig deep, use our limited resources, and believe that God would help us to bless 400 families with food and toys at Christmas, and boy did He! December 13 was an awesome day in the life of our church. I would love to share a few of the stories from that day.
The Monday after the Joy Drive Pastor Rusty received a call from a lady thanking us again, after she had received toys and food. She shared that she was a grandmother who found herself being the sole provider for her 3 small grandchildren. Saturday morning she woke up worried about how she was going to provide any toys for her grandchildren.
She prayed and asked Jesus to show her a sign that He heard her prayers and that He was going to help her. Later that day, she drove down Dallas Hwy and saw our signs that said “Free Food and Toys”. She knew there had to be a catch. Once she arrived inside our church, she realized that there wasn’t a catch. Pastor Rusty told her that God loved her and so did Lost Mountain Baptist Church. Through tears she expressed gratefulness.
We had lots of our youth and children here during the Joy Drive to play with the children that came while their parents shopped. God really moved in their lives as well. We were able to share the plan of salvation and show the love of God to 90 children that day. When Katy Helyn came home with my Mom after the Joy Drive she asked my Mom for a box. She packed some of her things and later gave the box to me. She told me that she wanted to help a child that didn’t have as much as she did and she wanted me to give the box to our Pass It On Ministry.
Intrigued, I opened the box before I turned it in. Among her prized possessions, she had included a pocket Bible and a note. The note told a little bit about her, wished her a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and then said, “I hope that you get to know Jesus and accept Him as your Savior. Read this Bible and you’ll learn more about Him.” As a Mother I am so grateful to be a part of a church that uses everyone, including our children, to further God’s kingdom. I am looking forward to an awesome 2015! I can’t wait to see all that God is going to do in us and through us this year!!
