Clay grew up in Alexander City, AL. His parents still live there. As a boy, he just wanted to be outside. He played baseball and soccer. He hunted deer in the Alabama woods. His dad and grandfather took him squirrel hunting. He tried his hand at shooting skeet. He rode his four-wheeler on his grandparents’ land.
While at seminary, Clay met the love of his life, Amanda, from Hattiesburg, MS. They both felt called to work with students. He earned his Master’s in Christian Education. She earned hers in Christian counseling. Since they married 10 years ago, God has blessed Clay and Amanda with three precious children: Adalyn, age five; Cason, age three; and Aleah, age six months. Amanda works hard caring for her young family and recently began homeschooling.
Clay and Amanda are excited to join the church family at Lost Mountain Baptist Church. And, they are looking for babysitters for some date nights. He likes to go out to eat a ribeye. She prefers chicken alfredo.
Clay on Student Ministry
As a young man, Clay realized his relationship with God needed to be first in his life. He began pursuing God daily through prayer and reading God’s Word, the Bible, to deepen his relationship with God. He began to love God–and other people more. That’s what he wants to teach students to do, as well.
“There are so many different voices to listen to today,” Clay says. “I want to teach students to listen to the voice of truth.”
Clay plans to help students learn to:
- • study God’s Word for themselves
- • defend their faith
- • be a light for Christ in their schools, neighborhoods, sports teams, band
- • be disciples so they can make disciples
