a word from Jordan Whittington
Student Life Pastor
May is a month of celebration. Celebrating the school year ending. Celebrating the summer arriving. At the church we will celebrate the accomplishments of our students in Kindergarten, 5th Grade, 12th Grade and even college graduates. We will celebrate our mothers and remember the ones who have given their life for our country. May truly is a month of celebration.
However, I fear that in the aftermath of our celebration, we are tempted to cease working. Summer brings new schedules, fun trips, and warm days, but even though we often have more free time, for some reason we struggle to take advantage of it. Perhaps, celebration breeds complacency and our lives feel the effects.
Paul writes in Philippians 3:14, “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Though we are tempted towards stagnation, we must press forward in faith down the path of following Jesus.
Celebration must fuel us to continue on, not cease to grow. In May, we celebrate the great things that have been accomplished, but let us not become content with where we are, but may we press on toward Christ in every aspect of our life. More is ahead. The God that was faithful to us in the past will be faithful in our future. Chase Him. Trust Him. Pursue Him.
